Saturday 16 September 2000: Attack of the killer elk, part II

We went on a walk. It was fun. We saw a lot of other people. People suck. Cats are much better.Kippers are not edible. The trail was interesting enough, but it got a bit boring towards the end, and, in an effort to put the horrible tragedy of elk-day behind us, we voluntarily choose to meander along a meandering stream for a little while.

Late that afternoon, Elisabeth was off in the bathroom and I heard a sound from in the bushes which sounded inhuman. I dropped the pans I was cleaning and grabbed the camera as out of the undergrowth just across from our campsite there stepped three elk. I grabbed random pictures, but saved some for when Elisabeth got back so that she too could experience the thrill of taking pictures of goats-on-roofs, uh, I mean elk.
We had another beautiful fire for marshmellows, since we had lots of wood to get through. We finished off the garlikcy spaghetti sauce, and roasted marshmellows and ate chocolate (we had only just got the oven mit clean from the last time we tried s'mores). There were annoying college students (big and scary) in the camp next to us, doing college-student type things, but the sky that night was completely clear and we could see the Milky Way stretched across the sky and millions and millions of stars. We also saw a suprising number of shooting stars.
